Basic Properties:
Hydrochloric acid is an aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride. Pure hydrochloric acid is a colorless and transparent liquid with a pungent odor. Industrialgrade hydrochloric acid may have a slight yellow color due to impurities such as iron and chlorine. It is highly corrosive and can corrode skin and fibers. Being a strong inorganic acid, it can react with many metals, metal oxides, alkalis, and most salts. Concentrated hydrochloric acid fumes in the air and forms white clouds when in contact with ammonia vapor.
Main Applications:
Hydrochloric acid is one of the important chemical raw materials used in the manufacturing of products such as barium chloride, zinc chloride, aniline, dyes, and saponified fats and oils. It is used in the metallurgical industry for both dry and wet metallurgy processes, as well as for cleaning steel plates. In the light industry, it is employed in fabric dyeing, tanning, leather dyeing, electroplating, and other applications. It is also used in starch manufacturing, alcohol and glucose hydrolysis, and in the production of condiments like monosodium glutamate and soy sauce in the food industry. Additionally, it finds applications in the regeneration of ion exchange resins and as a cleaning agent for metal surfaces.
